This week after finishing the essay things settled down a lot more which relieved a lot of stress that had been put on me. I also really enjoyed the poem that we read this week and I think it was cool to analyze and decide why I had thought it was resigned. The poem this week was much easier for me to analyze than the others so I feel that this being a routine is helping me understand much easier. Something I really liked this week was the poem, I think it was the best part of the week even having to talk about the poem and discuss the different ways that we as a group saw the poem. https://www.vaniercollege.qc.ca/tlc/tipsheets/reading-and-analyzing/how-to-analyze-a-poem.pdf

Throughout week 7 I feel like I have really been struggling to grasp what is going on in this class. Organizing and breaking down the stories in the planner, preparing to write the essay, something I cannot seem to understand. It's been difficult to communicate with my group members on it since our views are so different but it's been helpful to have different opinions. I feel like breaking down things is harder for me than just to look at it and write an essay. I'm excited to see what else I can learn from this though, although I am nervous for my grade...
This class is really challenging me but I knew that is exactly what it was going to do so I'm just trying to push myself to take in as much as I can. Sometimes when things are worded in a certain way it is hard for me to understand it the way it is meant to be taken. Over all this week has stressed me out a small amount just because I feel a little lost in what I'm being asked to do but it's nice to be challenged and be prepared for college. I felt that week 6 has been very chaotic and hectic for me. There has kind of been a lot going on in this class and I am sometimes still struggling to understand what is going on so it's good that I have people at my table to sometimes help redirect me. It was cool to have a speaker come in and talk to us about how he wrote and how he has failed and that not everyone will enjoy your work. I found it interesting that he mentioned to write things down so that you can't backspace what your thoughts are. Something I find very helpful is the diagrams and tables that help us sort out of thoughts and sort of break them down. I also learned how to sort of analyze the different elements which I enjoyed too. I'm still trying to get into the book I am reading which is Clockers and so far I haven't been enjoying it as much as The Wanderers. Over all, this week stressed me out a small amount but I learned really important things. Something that I feel will really stick with me is that you should write your thoughts down on paper instead of typing, that way you cannot just delete your work.
I really enjoyed the week 5 poems that we had listened to in the beginning of class. I feel like they had been a lot funnier and more interesting than some we had listened to in the past. I also started to read Clockers which is okay so far but not too interesting. Editing our creative writing and picking out a certain story was also something I enjoyed. I think it is cool that we are adding onto one of our stories and I like that we got to pick which. I think the main focus of the week had been on our creative writing or working on the stories that our group had picked out. The stories my group picked had been fairly long but I enjoyed reading them.
In week 4 of AP LIT, I started to understand how to pull apart a poem in ways such as learning about the structure. The poem had a structure that contained couplets. I also just learned what a couplet was, two lines in a poem. I had a much better understanding on how to analyze a photograph and be able to capture what is going on, or what I think is going on based on the scene, facial expression, and the time when it had been taken or painted. I also learned how to stop when there would be line breaks. Throughout the 4 weeks I feel I am slowly getting into my creative writing more, and being more comfortable writing down what comes to my mind instead of deleting.
After Week 1 I had been eager to see what other things I would be learning in this class. Something that I learned that I feel I will greatly benefit from, would be how to break up a poem and truly understand what is being said. I think it's very important to have your own meaning and understanding of a poem and see how it connects to what others had taken from the reading. Learning how to break up the poem was beneficial because not only did I get a deeper understanding of it, but I also got to explore different views of the poem by talking to my peers, and also got a few different meanings by rereading this myself. Another beneficial thing I learned in week 2 had been learning, and understanding what a connotation was. At first, I really had a problem grasping what this had meant and how to use this to break down a poem, but now I have a much better understanding of what it is and how it may be relevant to breaking down my poem. Personally, I struggled using the TP-CASTT to break down the poem. It was difficult for me to fully understand what was being asked for each part. After discussing with my peers, I feel as if I understand much better and now I can see this being a great way for me to have a deeper understanding of what I am reading. To sum up this week, I think learning how to use and incorporate the TP-CASTT I will have a much better understanding of what I am reading, and instead of just pointing out the obvious, I am going much deeper into my thoughts and also being more creative with my responses. I think this will help me a lot more the next time, than it had the first since I had some trouble understanding what was being asked.

Week 1: Stepping Out of the Comfort ZoneComing into this class I was very scared since it is an AP Class. After learning about how my teacher wants us to learn I feel a lot more comfortable. I like that we can choose a book for our author study and our teacher seems willing to help. Throughout week one, I learned what a reading rate was and how important it is to know your own reading rate. I always felt like I had to keep up with the majority of the class which made me blow through all of my reading. I also learned what an author study was. I also learned that it is important to find a book you enjoy that way you can really focus and relate to the book. Reading does not have a specific rate to which you need to read and I like that our teacher understands that people have to set their own pace. I think I am most excited to be more open to new ideas and genres throughout the year. I also like that we get a chunk of books to choose from. It puts me out of my comfort zone but it also gives me the option to choose what I am reading. I have already started my book and it is something I would not have chose on my own so I am glad I am being put out of my comfort zone and trying a new genre. Already in the first week, I realize how important reading is and how much of an impact it can have on your life and your path.
