In week 4 of AP LIT, I started to understand how to pull apart a poem in ways such as learning about the structure. The poem had a structure that contained couplets. I also just learned what a couplet was, two lines in a poem. I had a much better understanding on how to analyze a photograph and be able to capture what is going on, or what I think is going on based on the scene, facial expression, and the time when it had been taken or painted. I also learned how to stop when there would be line breaks. Throughout the 4 weeks I feel I am slowly getting into my creative writing more, and being more comfortable writing down what comes to my mind instead of deleting.

Week 1: Stepping Out of the Comfort ZoneComing into this class I was very scared since it is an AP Class. After learning about how my teacher wants us to learn I feel a lot more comfortable. I like that we can choose a book for our author study and our teacher seems willing to help. Throughout week one, I learned what a reading rate was and how important it is to know your own reading rate. I always felt like I had to keep up with the majority of the class which made me blow through all of my reading. I also learned what an author study was. I also learned that it is important to find a book you enjoy that way you can really focus and relate to the book. Reading does not have a specific rate to which you need to read and I like that our teacher understands that people have to set their own pace. I think I am most excited to be more open to new ideas and genres throughout the year. I also like that we get a chunk of books to choose from. It puts me out of my comfort zone but it also gives me the option to choose what I am reading. I have already started my book and it is something I would not have chose on my own so I am glad I am being put out of my comfort zone and trying a new genre. Already in the first week, I realize how important reading is and how much of an impact it can have on your life and your path.
