I felt that week 6 has been very chaotic and hectic for me. There has kind of been a lot going on in this class and I am sometimes still struggling to understand what is going on so it's good that I have people at my table to sometimes help redirect me. It was cool to have a speaker come in and talk to us about how he wrote and how he has failed and that not everyone will enjoy your work. I found it interesting that he mentioned to write things down so that you can't backspace what your thoughts are. Something I find very helpful is the diagrams and tables that help us sort out of thoughts and sort of break them down. I also learned how to sort of analyze the different elements which I enjoyed too. I'm still trying to get into the book I am reading which is Clockers and so far I haven't been enjoying it as much as The Wanderers. Over all, this week stressed me out a small amount but I learned really important things. Something that I feel will really stick with me is that you should write your thoughts down on paper instead of typing, that way you cannot just delete your work.

Week 1: Stepping Out of the Comfort ZoneComing into this class I was very scared since it is an AP Class. After learning about how my teacher wants us to learn I feel a lot more comfortable. I like that we can choose a book for our author study and our teacher seems willing to help. Throughout week one, I learned what a reading rate was and how important it is to know your own reading rate. I always felt like I had to keep up with the majority of the class which made me blow through all of my reading. I also learned what an author study was. I also learned that it is important to find a book you enjoy that way you can really focus and relate to the book. Reading does not have a specific rate to which you need to read and I like that our teacher understands that people have to set their own pace. I think I am most excited to be more open to new ideas and genres throughout the year. I also like that we get a chunk of books to choose from. It puts me out of my comfort zone but it also gives me the option to choose what I am reading. I have already started my book and it is something I would not have chose on my own so I am glad I am being put out of my comfort zone and trying a new genre. Already in the first week, I realize how important reading is and how much of an impact it can have on your life and your path.
