I really enjoyed the week 5 poems that we had listened to in the beginning of class. I feel like they had been a lot funnier and more interesting than some we had listened to in the past. I also started to read Clockers which is okay so far but not too interesting. Editing our creative writing and picking out a certain story was also something I enjoyed. I think it is cool that we are adding onto one of our stories and I like that we got to pick which. I think the main focus of the week had been on our creative writing or working on the stories that our group had picked out. The stories my group picked had been fairly long but I enjoyed reading them.

Week 1: Stepping Out of the Comfort ZoneComing into this class I was very scared since it is an AP Class. After learning about how my teacher wants us to learn I feel a lot more comfortable. I like that we can choose a book for our author study and our teacher seems willing to help. Throughout week one, I learned what a reading rate was and how important it is to know your own reading rate. I always felt like I had to keep up with the majority of the class which made me blow through all of my reading. I also learned what an author study was. I also learned that it is important to find a book you enjoy that way you can really focus and relate to the book. Reading does not have a specific rate to which you need to read and I like that our teacher understands that people have to set their own pace. I think I am most excited to be more open to new ideas and genres throughout the year. I also like that we get a chunk of books to choose from. It puts me out of my comfort zone but it also gives me the option to choose what I am reading. I have already started my book and it is something I would not have chose on my own so I am glad I am being put out of my comfort zone and trying a new genre. Already in the first week, I realize how important reading is and how much of an impact it can have on your life and your path.
